Description: This course will describe the principles of risk management (especially in the area of natural resource management) which includes stakeholder identification, analyses on ISO risk management principals and guidelines, assessment and prioritization of risks and identification of the response strategies to reduce risks.

Outcome of the course: This course will train participants to exhibit the knowledge of the basic principles of risk management and specific knowledge about definitions of risk (and uncertainty), qualitative and quantitative assessment of risk. The participants will also be able to demonstrate and understand the basic mechanisms behind risk perceptions and its implications in risk management and risk communication.

It is expected that after finishing this course, the participants will be able to;

  • Use the theory and concepts from the course to evaluate/reflect upon existing risk management plans
  • Classify various types of risk
  • Make a risk analysis of the case, including
    • Propose a risk management plan
    • Consider how to communicate the plan to stakeholders/non-specialists

Teaching methodologies: The lecture will be delivered in English. This course will follow the technique of interactive learning where the participants must be actively engaged in group works and discussions and also case presentations.

Target participants: Anyone who wants to become a risk manager.
